  • Mary Jo Hoffman is a native Minnesotan who grew up roaming Twin Cities woods, prairies, and lakes, and never forgot what it felt like to be immersed in an intimate conversation with the natural world. She received a master's degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Stanford University, and worked for 17 years as a research scientist designing guidance systems for hypersonic vehicles. In 2012, Mary Jo began a blog called STILL, with a goal of posting one photo a day, against a white background, of a natural object found near her. This supposed "One-year challenge" eventually grew into the primary focus of her creative life, and now, over a decade later, she still posts every day. A mother of two, Mary Jo lives with her husband on three acres of woods and cattails, on Turtle Lake, in Shoreview, Minnesota, with Steve, Jack the Puggle, and a pair of Sandhill Cranes who summer in their back yard.
